Diagram of the Tealium Customer Data Hub. On the left, four sources: web through utag.js, mobile app through a native SDK, server side through the API and batch loads, and the data cloud through CloudStream, with no copy. In the center, the platform with four pieces: iQ for tags, load rules and consent; EventStream for routing and server-side forwarding; AudienceStream for real-time visitor stitching; and Context API for exposing live profiles. Inside the same block, its declared limits: no native channels and no journey builder. On the right, the destinations: ad platforms, analytics and warehouse, and CRM and engagement engines.

The risk map of the tag manager
You audit what you inherit, not what you built. A tag manager can rewrite the DOM and download scripts, so I ranked by risk what each piece could do across both sites. With a cookie inventory, Adobe Analytics cross-domain tracking, and the library served through a reverse proxy on its own domain.

Replacing a bank tag manager without switching measurement off
I inherited it from another supplier and it could not be trusted, so nearly all of it was rebuilt: the data layer, the load rules, the extensions and the tags. All of it with the site in production and no downtime window, which forces you to move in pieces and prove the new one says what the old one said.

Two Tealium profiles inside one brand
One brand, two different worlds. The commercial site and the transactional one share no tags, no consent rules and no risk profile. I kept a profile for each, with Adobe Analytics and Target in both, and most advertising tags only in the commercial one.

Frequently asked questions
Which Tealium modules do you actually know well?
iQ and EventStream, with direct experience and product certification in both. On AudienceStream I have provided configuration and integration support, but I have not led a full implementation. I say this before you hire, not after.
Do we need to rebuild the whole implementation?
No. Scope is agreed per module and per data flow, and you can start with just one. Turning Tealium into a single rebuild project is the fastest way to get nothing into production this year.
Does Tealium replace a suite like Adobe?
It covers collection, governance, and activation very well, but it brings no native channels and no journey builder. That makes it strong when you already own the campaign tools, and short when you expected it to include them.
Does it work if another vendor already operates Tealium?
Yes, and that is usually the case. Scope is limited to the agreed modules and flows, and the deliverable is documented so whoever runs the day to day can pick it up. Fixing one specific part does not require displacing anyone.
Does this fit your problem?
Send me the context and I will tell you whether this scope fits or a different starting point makes more sense.
